How to properly use gauze pads

2026-01-15

There are currently two types of gauze pads available on the market: one is specifically designed for medical use, and the other is the kind we commonly use in everyday life. Thanks to their excellent breathability and other advantages, such as being made of cotton, gauze pads have become quite popular. Whenever we need to bandage a minor scrape, gauze pads are often the first thing that comes to mind—and with proper application, the wound will gradually heal. But do you know what specific precautions should be taken when using gauze pads? Today, our editor from Yu’an Medical is here to share some tips with you!

The base material of gauze pads is medical degreased gauze. Proper gauze pads should be soft, odorless and tasteless, neatly folded, and free from frayed edges or loose fibers protruding from the surface. Depending on their intended use, these products can be categorized into standard degreased gauze pads and sewn degreased gauze pads. Based on their delivery condition, they can also be divided into sterile gauze pads and non-sterile gauze pads. When using these products in daily life, always remember not to apply excessive pressure during bandaging—otherwise, the gauze is likely to stick to the wound. Once the wound has healed, the gauze will have already adhered firmly and become difficult to remove. Additionally, when using gauze pads, try to avoid getting them wet as much as possible. The two points mentioned above are insights gathered by Yu'an Medical in everyday practice; we hope they prove helpful to you.
