Introduction to the Disinfection and Sterilization Process of Infusion Patches

2026-01-15

Infusion patches are a basic medical supply commonly used in hospitals, so they have extremely high hygiene requirements. During the manufacturing process, infusion patches must undergo disinfection and sterilization procedures. Now, let’s take a closer look at this with the help of Yu’an Medical’s editor.

During sterilization, temperature and humidity requirements are critical. If the temperature falls below 35°C or the relative humidity drops below 25%, the sterilization effect will not be achieved—even extending the sterilization time will be ineffective. When introducing EO, it is essential to first slightly open the cylinder valve, then open the chamber valve, allowing the EO to fully vaporize before entering the chamber. Avoid adding the EO too quickly to ensure adequate vaporization. After the chamber has undergone five purging cycles and the chamber pressure has been confirmed to be zero, close the door-seal inflation switch and vacuum the door seal. Then, turn the door-opening switch to open the door. The ethylene oxide sterilization procedure must be carried out strictly according to the operating guidelines, with someone constantly monitoring the pressure gauge. The toxic effects of ethylene oxide on the human body primarily result from direct contact or inhalation. Ethylene oxide gas can irritate the respiratory tract. During the sterilization process, appropriate protective measures must be taken. If ethylene oxide liquid accidentally splashes onto the skin or into the eyes, immediately rinse the affected area with water. Ethylene oxide is highly flammable and explosive; when its concentration in the air ranges from 3% to 80%, it forms an explosive mixture that can ignite or explode upon contact with an open flame. Therefore, it is crucial to ensure adequate ventilation in the disinfection workshop, prohibit any contact with open flames, and make sure all switches and lighting fixtures in the sterilization environment are explosion-proof.

The above is an introduction to the disinfection and sterilization processes for infusion patches, summarized and explained by Yu'an Medical. We welcome both new and existing customers to call our company for detailed inquiries and to discuss potential collaborations.
