I. Understanding the Types and Differences of Domestically Produced Medical Masks
1. N95 (medical protective masks) > medical surgical masks > ordinary medical masks (including medical nursing masks and disposable medical masks) > other various “three-no” masks (typically cotton masks and sponge masks) > no mask at all!!!
2. For N95 masks, the kind that can be worn in patient rooms—ordinary settings only require medical surgical masks.
3. The difference between medical surgical masks and ordinary medical masks lies in the middle layer: the middle layer of a medical surgical mask is made of meltblown fabric. Non-woven fabric It has a tougher, thicker layer that can filter aerosols, whereas the middle filter layer of ordinary medical masks is relatively thin.
II. How to Distinguish Between Genuine and Fake
1. Visit the website of the National Medical Products Administration (NMPA). After opening the website, navigate to “Homepage—Medical Devices—Medical Device Inquiry—Domestic Medical Device Products (Registered)” to access the relevant page. In the search box, enter either “medical surgical mask” or “medical protective mask.” You’ll then be able to find the manufacturers and brands that have been registered with the NMPA.
2. Be aware that many sellers deliberately scatter keywords like “medical surgical mask,” leading you to mistakenly equate ordinary medical masks with medical surgical masks. A genuine medical surgical mask will clearly state “Medical Surgical Mask” on its packaging; if it omits the word “surgical,” it’s just an ordinary medical mask.
